 Plastering, Rendering,

screeding and Damp proofing

I started plastering in 1983 with the top plastering firm in North London and continued there after, developing skills in exterior cornicing and profiling on Georgian and Victorian property's, exterior rendering, pebble dashing exterior 1930's houses (our stones stay on), to all internal plastering, rendering, damp proofing and cornices (coving).
I've seen some shoddy plastering undertaken here and am disgusted that some one has actually paid for it, whereby they have to then fill, sand it or line paper the newly plastered surfaces. We can give you a finish such as glass. Exterior render can look terrible if not correctly done, its the outside of your house, it should not have joins in it nor lumpy rough cast effect. With these defects it will not give you the weatherproof finish what the application should do. It should look like one slab that will give years of protection as well as decorative effect. Pebble dashing to see bald after a few storms I can only say again is "disgusting", theres no need for this type of work, it all goes down to preperation, that I can offer.

Plastering

plasPlastering consists usually of 2 'sets' or coats, applied in quick succession during the same roomsession. The second coat is smoothed as it hardens,to give a smooth finish akin to eggshell. The time taken to dry varies according to the underlying surface, but will usually take a number of days. During the drying process the wall will appear darker in the areas that still retain some moisture. Once dry and pale, it's ready for decorating.

Pebble dashing

Is applied in two phases. Initally a coat of PVA sealer for preperation then a waterproof render base (scratch) coat is applied, after which a 2nd coat is applied. While the 2nd coat is still wet the pea-shingle is embedded within it.It protects the underlying brickwork from weathering, and can be useful to cover existing cracks and imperfections.

Rendering

Applying a coat or more of sand and cement is called rendering. The composition of the render is usually made of sand and cement and can also be mixed with small stones. Rendering has to be allowed to dry before it can be painted.Applying a coat or more of sand and cement is called rendering. We can provide all aspects of plastering and rendering: damage ceiling repairs or removing and replacing, walls skimming, plastering.rendering, pebbledashing, floor screeding, plasterboarding and drylining

Damp Proofing

Damp Proofing – Injection Treatment

dampRising Damp can develop within walls due to the lack of an effective damp proof course or the omission of damp proofing during earlier construction.
In most cases, rising damp is identified by moisture readings obtained around the base of the walls, however in more severe cases of prolonged dampness, visible damp patches may appear along with hygroscopic salts on the wall surfaces. Damp Proofing/ remedial damp proof course treatment involves installing a chemical damp proof course using Sovereign DPC injection fluid, which is installed by pattern drilling the appropriate mortar course at the base of the wall and injecting the water proofers under pressure into the masonry substrate. Damp Proofing chemical injection process, is low odour and cures within the masonry wall to form an impervious barrier to rising dampness, which prevents moisture rising from the ground into the treated walls. Adjacent abutting walls are isolated using a vertical damp proof course.
Used in conjunction with our specialist waterproof rendering system, the Sovereign  damp proof course system, provides a reliable, highly effective and cost effective method for the treatment of rising dampness. Specialist re-plastering of the walls following the damp proof course installation is essential. The installed damp proof course prevents moisture continuing to rise into the walls, however, due to the effects of the ground salts, the walls will not dry out effectively unless the existing wall plaster is removed and replaced using a salt retardant rendering system, such as Sovereign’s premix waterproof rendering system.
Where high ground levels exist, Sovereign structural waterproofing or Sovereign tanking may also be required in conjunction with the chemical damp proofing. We offer a comprehensive service to home owners and property professionals to undertake the specialist damp proofing as part of their programme of works. Treatment is undertaken by our own skilled technician and we do not use sub contractors.
Typically, treatment involves removal of the skirting boards and wall plaster on the walls to be treated. The wall plaster is removed to a height of approximately one metre, however depending on the salts within the masonry and several other factors, the height of the necessary re-plastering may be increased and will be individually specified once our surveyor has carried out an inspection of your property. Re-plastering above one metre high is not uncommon.
The damp proof course is installed into the walls by pattern drilling damp1the masonry at the base of the wall and injecting a specially formulated solution of Sovereign injection fluid, until the entire depth of the wall is fully impregnated.
The walls are then re-plastered using Sovereign premix waterproof rendering system, which is purpose designed to provide a salt retardant, waterproof render to combat the effects of the ground salts in the masonry and provide a dry internal finish.
Following the application of the waterproof rendering system, we will apply top coat skim plaster to provide a smooth finish. Our installations are carried out to the highest standards and are covered by the most comprehensive guarantees available.
